You have earned your good credit so you should take advantage of the perks allowed to you. The key is finding out what makes sense and what perks will be best for you.
When it comes down to what credit card companies are willing to offer a perspective client that has good credit you may find that the incentive programs nowadays come in every form.
From getting cash back rewards to airmiles to merchandise credit card companies are changing their old perks with ones that people actually want to use. Predominantly many of the perks available today with various credit card offers can come in two forms: cash back programs and rewards programs.
For a lot of consumers credit cards that offer cash back programs can be very attractive. There are a couple types of cash back rebate credit cards: ones that offer a flat percentage rebate, generally 1% based on the amount you spend a year. And those cards that have a tiered award system, generally from 0.25% to more than 1% depending on how much money you spend.
Also some credit cards require that you carry a month-to-month balance in order to be eligible for the cash back rebate. This will probably take away from the benefit of the cash back program since there are higher rates associated with these cards. The average annual percentage rate (APR) for cash back credit cards is more than 14% and usually runs around 4% higher than non rebate types of credit cards.
Some cards will offer a rebate that is higher on targeted or specific spending and a lower rebate percentage on all other credit card spending with that card.
These cards are similar to the rebates programs as these credit cards reward their cardholders based on what they spend per year. You can get rewards for travel, such as airmiles, merchandise and services.
These types of credit cards are made up to reward your spending from things such as staying in hotels, packaged vacations and discounted or free airline flights. Usually you will get anywhere from one to several points or airmiles for every dollar you spend on the card.
The points or airmiles are redeemable for specific or travel related services that are affiliated with the card such as airlines, rental car agencies, and hotels. An important aspect with rewards credit cards, especially mileage or points cards, is the large fee per year that most credit card companies charge.
These charges can be in the general area of around $50 to some cards that have annual fees that are around several hundred dollars. Since the fees are steep you should only consider obtaining a card such as this if you are a frequent flier with one airline or stay at one hotel often. You can obtain a lot of points/airmiles quickly and then trade them in for hotel stays or airline tickets.
Credit card offers from your favorite store - these types of cards work mush the same as the points or mileage cards except they have different rewards. The retail cards can encapsulate everything from gas cards from a certain company, to merchandisers like Sears, Wal Mart, and Costco, to name just a few.
Many of these credit cards offer various discounts on their merchandise or even cash back programs. Usually their reward programs are tiered giving better rebates or discounts for buying their products, services, or spending on the card in their stores. All other spending associated with the card still has a reward but at a lower rebate or not as many points.
A credit card offer that comes with a car - Many manufactures of automobiles have credit card offers for rewards programs that give incentives for spending with their cards for future automobile purchases.
This credit card offers a 5% rebate on all purchases made on the card. Also most will allow you to set aside and have your points added up for a purchase of a new automobile at a discounted rate for up to seven years.
Making a future nest egg - These credit cards are offered by financial service companies and they reward their issuers with rebates that can be invested in either cash or accounts for mutual funds. In some cases the rebates can be invested into qualified accounts.
