There are numerous ways of getting good credit card offers nowadays. Internet undoubtedly made the process of application extremely easy by introducing so-called online credit card applications. But you might have heard about some unique ways of getting a credit card - you are offered just to dial a free number and, thus, get the best credit card offer ever! If this is what you are offered - beware! It is not a miracle; it is just a credit marketing spam.
FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has already taken serious actions in order to fight the companies that advertise easy and fast ways of getting plastics such as simply dialing telephone numbers. In reality, only we can make a difference.
This swindler story happened to my mom just couple of years ago. My mom was credit free for many years. She had no credit history at all. What my mom did - she simply denied credit. Only when she was 50 life kind of forced her to get the plastic.
One day mom was watching TV. On the TV she was offered all kinds of best credit cards! All of them were extremely fast and easy to get - all one needed was to dial and he or she was guaranteed secured credit card or unsecured one. The ad kept promoting - just dial the number that's on your screen! Nobody knows why but my mom believed that. She called. Later on she found the cost of this very call was $50. Certainly, she learnt that only after receiving her telephone bill. When mom for the first time dialed that dummy phone number, some lady told her that she was required to fill in the application and pay some fees. Then the lady asked my mom to dial some other number for further explanation. As a result, some $210 was spent and certainly mommy never got any card. Only later did she get a real credit card after she applied for it online. Instant approval cards are secure.
If you don't dream of becoming a victim of credit card swindlers, you need to know several basic things about them:
1. Scammers always offer you a "guaranteed" easy credit. You need to understand that no one can guarantee you any credit. Credit card companies examine your credit history and only then decide whether you are eligible or not.
2. You are promised to be accepted just by making a phone call. Remember, you will never get any plastic just by dialing the numbers on the screen. It is just a waste of money. There is only one solution - never call those phone numbers at all.
3. You are offered to have your bad credit history cleaned up but only if you pay some special repair fees. No magic can repair your spoiled credit. There is only one way - using your credit card smartly. There are sadly no other options.
If you have no idea how to do it, there are specialized non-commercial counseling programs that can help you to plan your budget and, moreover, will develop a special plan to arrange your payments. It is a great plus that this help is free or charged very low.
Secured credit cards can also help you. These cards are ideal for restoring your credit history as they are secured by the deposit - you just won't be able to get too far into the debts. If you choose this way of repairing your credit, you should constantly make sure that all the credit info is reported to the bureaus.
If you don't want to be completely fooled by the credit swindlers, you should clearly realize that there are no miracles in financial matters. It only takes time and your effort first of all to rebuild and save your history.
