What can you do when your credit score appears low based on credit card offers?
When customers own a high credit score (indicating excellent credit or good credit), they have more financial options than people with bad credit history. You can always improve your credit score no matter what your history is like. The steps below outline the seven best ways to go about making your credit score higher.
You can make the seven improvements:
1. Check your credit report on a regular basis. Many times there are mistakes all through people's credit reports without them even realizing it. If you check your report on a regular basis (every few months) then you can protect yourself.
2. Find out what your credit score is. Knowing your current credit score means that you have more power when it comes to negotiating with credit card companies. Most of the time, these companies just assume you don't know your score and they try and lowball you. Armed with your credit score (for a low fee) you can make a difference in negotiations.
3. Avoid having open credit card accounts. Only have the credit cards that you use open. If you have a lot of open credit card accounts than you are looked at with a wary eye because even with a zero balance you could be a risk when it comes to credit problems.
4. Keep all of your balances as low as possible. The higher your debt, the lower your credit score will be. Keep this in mind if you want low rate card offers.
5. Make all of your credit card payments on time. This is the single most important thing you can do to keep your credit score high. The sooner you can pay off all of your debts the better. If you feel that you cannot get your payment in on time call your credit card company as soon as possible to resolve the issue.
6. Minimize how many people view your credit report. While some companies will require a look at your credit report before working with you for insurance or lending purposes, limit how many companies see your report. Everyone who views your report is listed with your score and the more people view your report, the worse it looks to lenders.
7. If your credit is bad, consider opening new accounts and start paying on time. People with bad credit can create a positive credit history by nearly starting over. If you merely open a new credit card account and begin to handle it responsibly, you can improve your credit score.
People with bad credit can turn it into good credit with a little bit of work and a little bit of time. A good credit score will open up many doors for people in terms of getting loans and other credit cards with low interest and low fees.
